Magento 2.4.4 Release Notes: Better Security With Newly Added Features
After much anticipation, the latest Magento 2.4.4 is released on April 12, 2022. This is the Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce 2.4.4 release, and it brings about 250 quality enhancements and fixes.

Security Improvement
The latest version introduced a security fix while improving the overall performance of the security platform. In addition, the new release has at least ten additional security enhancement features for the platform. The new version includes enhancements like:
- In the Magento database, the session IDs are not stored anymore
- In the database, there are the OAuth access tokens with the encrypted password reset tokens.
- For the coupon codes the Google reCAPTCHA support is provided
- When Adobe Commerce is in production mode, the swagger is no longer enabled.
- For eliminating the non-alphanumeric file extension upload, the validation factor has been increased.
- The user, through Web API, can request for limited number and size of the API resources
- There is backporting of the security fixes to Adobe commerce 2.4.3 and Adobe Commerce 2.3.7 versions.
Platform Improvement
The Adobe Commerce 2.4.4 release offers support for PHP8.1, and there are at least five additional enhancements for the platform from Magento Open Source 2.4.4, including the PHPUnit upgrade. In addition, the version is reported to have upgraded to 9.5X with the latest Magento Open Source 2.4.4.
- All the project dependencies and libraries are now compatible with PHP8.1.
- The new Magento updated version is now supporting the OpenSearch 1.2 and Elasticsearh 7.16
- There is an upgrade for the JQuery library to 3.6, and the Jquery-ui library is upgraded to 1.13.0
- From the existing codebase, TinyMCE 4 has been removed, while the new version now supports TinyMCE 5.8.1
- There is an upgrade of the PHPUnit to 9.5.x, the latest version
Performance & Scalability Upgrade
The release note stated that the order processing efficiency is six times in the new Magento version. In addition, there has been a performance optimization where message queuing has been boosted with the help of throughput order processing. As a result, the entire update is fully equipped to deliver the most effective outcome.
The enhancements include:
- For improved performance, the latest Magento version has introduced the AsyncOrder feature
- For faster checkout, there is the option to configure the ‘Enable Inventory Check On Card Load.’ It allows for speedier inventory checks for the business.
- The new version supports variable volume inputs to allow memory limit for the cart’s operation.
- The latest Magento version has boosted the sales rules processing by deferring the total calculation that was done earlier during the checkout.
- The new Abode Commerce 2.4.4 is launched with compatibility with PWA studio v.12.3.0.
GraphQL
In the latest Magento 2.4.4 Release notes, GraphQL improvements are mentioned. The update made enhancements under four categories:
- Store-related configuration settings were added for the admin. The upgrade allows the configuration of settings for the Zero Subtotal checks out. It also provides check/ money order payment by returning it to the store Confiq query.
- The core library of GraphQL was upgraded to version ^14.9.
- The GraphQL translation issue has also been fixed by translating the strings based on the scope of the store for multi-language and multi-site stores.
Vendor Bundle Extension
The new version of Magento 2.4.4 has revamped the vendor bundle extension by removing it from the codebase.
PayPal Payment
- The upgraded version of allows the support for Venmo payment.
- Pay later option has been added based on the merchant’s location. The customer can receive accurate messaging at the checkout page with the pay later option.
- Merchants can use the platform to test customer experience based on customer country. However, it is only valid for the sandbox testing mode.
Other Issues Fixed
Several other issues have been fixed with the upgrade. Some of them include:
- Issues resolving related to upgrading, installation, and deployment of the software,
- Removal of the insertion of the duplicate value in the database table of MySQL
- The errors of inaccessibility on the checkout page and cart while navigating are resolved
- In the admin login, the often experienced ‘Invalid security or form key. Please refresh the page’ it has been fixed.
- Issues related to bundle products with add to a card for a fixed price and other payment option has been fixed
- JS loading of the customer data has been resolved
- The white background shown with watermarked images with transparent background has been resolved.
- More informative content can be displayed option is offered to the admin for the customers when they enter an invalid gift card
- The product ratings that were an issue on the product list view page have been fixed.
Vendor Bundle Extensions
All vendor bundle extensions has been removed.
